Effective Methods to Eliminate Odor from Leather Watch Straps
Dealing with odors or stubborn stains on leather watch straps can be challenging. Here are several effective cleaning methods to refresh your leather band:
1. Quick Soap Wash: For a sour smell, use a soft-bristled toothbrush dipped in mild scented soap to swiftly scrub the affected area. Rinse quickly with water, using a “pinch and release” method to remove soap suds, ideally within 15 seconds. Dry naturally or use a hairdryer at a distance of 15cm to avoid warping the leather.
2. Alcohol Treatment: Apply 99% isopropyl alcohol to the strap and follow with a beeswax rub. This not only removes odors immediately but can also provide permanent relief after three applications. It offers disinfection and protects against moisture and mold without damaging the leather.
3. Floral Water Wipe: Using floral water (such as cologne) on a towel, wipe the leather strap to eliminate any odors and clean the band.
4. Dry Towel Finish: Wipe off any remaining moisture with a dry towel and allow the strap to air dry. Avoid using a hairdryer’s hot setting as the high heat can damage the leather, akin to skin burns, potentially ruining the strap. Natural air drying post-wipe is the best approach.
Adopting these methods can greatly extend the life and enjoyment of your leather watch strap, keeping it fresh and free from unpleasant odors.
