Maintaining and Repairing Your Eterna Watch: Essential TipsServicing an Eterna watch begins with precise oil application, a seemingly straightforward task that demands meticulous attention. Each component, from the movement plates to the jewels, must be spotless. Any residue compromises the oiling’s effectiveness. Utilizing specific lubricants for different parts is crucial—for instance, the power system requires thicker oil (8300), while gears benefit from thinner oil (8000), and the escapement system demands specialized oil (9010/2). It’s imperative to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach as it can significantly damage the Eterna movement.
Eterna watches require complete disassembly for service, from wiping the movement with gasoline to professional cleaning of internal mechanisms, concluding with oiling and reassembly. The case also undergoes polishing to restore its luster. Given the technical precision Eterna watches demand, professional cleaning typically takes up to five days. A well-serviced vintage Eterna can look nearly new. However, maintenance isn’t without cost, especially for high-value models. Service fees vary with the watch’s quality, with additional charges based on the watch’s value as stipulated by industry standards.
For infrequently worn Eterna watches, it’s advisable to periodically wind them to keep the movements active. Quartz models require battery replacements every 1-2 years, including seal renewal and waterproof testing. Watches with low battery indicators should have their batteries replaced within three weeks of the signal.
The materials of Eterna watch cases and bands range from tungsten-titanium alloys to stainless steel, requiring regular cleaning to maintain their appearance. Be cautious of friction with materials of equal or greater hardness. Also, beware of chemicals in cosmetics and seawater, which can corrode metal surfaces and coatings. Despite waterproof capabilities, 30m water resistance only protects against basic splashes; showering or swimming may exceed its limit. Remember, no matter the waterproof rating, wearing a watch in a sauna can accelerate seal deterioration, risking the movement’s protection.
