Maintenance Tips for Manual Mechanical Watches
Winding Your Watch
The energy generated by winding the crown is stored in the mainspring within the barrel. This energy is then transmitted to the movement, powering the hands of your watch. It’s recommended that wearers wind their watch at the same time every day to ensure consistent operation over 24 hours.
For those who do not wear their watch regularly, it’s advisable to still wind it periodically to maintain long-term functionality and reduce the need for frequent adjustments.
Regular Comprehensive Service
To guarantee the optimal performance of your hand-wound movement and precision, a comprehensive service at an authorized service center is suggested every 4 to 5 years. For watches with complex functions, consider a complete check-up every 3 to 4 years.
Moisture Protection
An annual inspection of all sealing gaskets is strongly advised to ensure the watch’s water resistance remains intact.
Use your watch according to its water resistance rating. After adjusting the time or functions, ensure the crown is properly sealed against the case to prevent moisture ingress.
If water gets inside the case or if any signs of moisture are noticed, promptly bring your watch to the nearest authorized service center.
After contact with seawater, it’s recommended to rinse your water-resistant watch with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.
Leather Strap Care
Your strap requires careful maintenance as well. Leather, being delicate and sensitive, necessitates special care. Be mindful that moisture and cosmetics can accelerate the aging of leather.
Incorporating these maintenance tips can greatly extend the life and performance of your manual mechanical watch, ensuring it remains a timeless treasure.
