“Method of Replacing Watch Glass”Watch glass serves as one of the most prominent exterior components of a watch, frequently coming into contact with external forces such as friction and impact. Due to its material and positioning, the watch glass is among the parts most susceptible to damage. It is imperative that lost, shattered, or cracked watch glasses be replaced with ones that match the original specifications.
The key to replacing watch glass lies in considering the outer and inner diameters of the glass. The inner diameter should precisely fit the tension ring, while the outer diameter should snugly match the watch case. Meeting these two criteria is crucial, regardless of the brand. Among these components, the outer diameter is most critical; a slightly smaller inner diameter can be managed by using an open tension ring, removing a small section if necessary to fit the watch glass without affecting the replacement.
To replace the watch glass, you can manually insert the glass into the slot on the watch case. After removing the damaged glass and cleaning the slot, position the tension ring inside the watch glass. Then, place the glass into the case slot. When three-quarters of the glass is in, support the back of the case with your left hand while pressing down on the center of the glass with your thumb. Use your right thumb to press the remaining edge into the slot until the glass is fully seated. Ideally, use a case press as it applies even pressure around the glass, ensuring all edges are securely fitted into the slot. It’s crucial to accurately select the inner and outer diameters to avoid breaking the glass. First, attempt a dry fit without the tension ring to ensure the outer diameter is suitable, then proceed to secure it with a case press.
By following these detailed instructions, you can ensure a proper and secure replacement of your watch glass, maintaining the aesthetics and functionality of your timepiece.
