1. Crown: The middle crown functions like a screw cap, designed for water resistance. To adjust the time, unscrew it counterclockwise, as if loosening a tea cup lid.
2. Winding: Once loosened, winding the crown upwards in its initial position (0 position) manually winds the watch. (For new or long-unworn mechanical watches, manually wind 30 times to ensure energy; not typically necessary daily.)
3. Date and Day Adjustment: A slight pull to the first notch (1 position) allows for day adjustment by turning upwards and date adjustment by turning downwards.
4. Time Adjustment: Pulling to the second notch (2 position) enables time setting.
Quartz Watch Adjustment
1. No Calendar: For watches without a calendar, pull out the crown when the second hand reaches the 12 o’clock position and rotate clockwise to adjust the time. For watches without a second hand, set the minute hand two minutes prior to the desired time for accuracy, then push back the crown.
2. With Calendar: For watches with a calendar, slightly pulling out the crown adjusts the day clockwise and the date counterclockwise. Pulling it out fully adjusts the time, similarly to watches without a calendar.
3. Complex Functions: For watches with more complex functionalities, it is advisable to contact the dealer directly.
Precautions for Adjusting Quartz and Mechanical Watches
1. Water Resistance: Before adjusting the time, for watches with a screw-down crown, do not pull forcefully. Instead, unscrew counterclockwise to unlock, adjust the time, then screw clockwise and push in to lock, preventing water ingress.
2. Mechanical Watches: Avoid adjusting the day and date between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM to prevent damage to the movement.
3. Time Adjustment Caution: Do not adjust the time counterclockwise between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM due to the day and date gears changing, as it may damage internal parts. Outside these hours, time can be adjusted freely in either direction.
